I’m trying something new so here goes! Every Tuesd I’m trying something new so here goes! Every Tuesday I’m posting an awesome trip itinerary. Something in between a full, in-depth blog post, and a single pretty Instagram pic.
•
Today’s itinerary is—Boston to Bar Harbor (AKA the home of Acadia National Park!) ⛵️🍩🌲
•
I highly recommend this road trip to anyone in New England or anyone wanting to experience New England. It’s a perfect mix of cities and nature, ocean and forest, donuts and breweries...
•
You can do the drive from Boston to Bar Harbor (Massachusetts to Maine for any geography buffs) in a few hours, even taking the scenic coastal drive, but we stopped in quirky, brewery-filled Portland for a night in between.
•
Portland is devastatingly charming—the harbor view from our VRBO wasn’t too bad either. Make sure you explore the waterfront downtown, promenade, and get a famous potato donut (I know, sounds weird, but it tasted like a normal donut 🤷🏼‍♀️ which for all I know are also made of potatoes. Idk how to make a donut).
•
New England is also known for lobster rolls. After extensive (... there were excel docs) research, we decided on Red’s Eats. Lobster rolls are a bit spendy not to mention extremely filling, so we just had one shot at eating the best lobster roll in Maine. Red’s Eats delivered! If you can smell the ocean from the lobster shack, it’s a good sign ⚓️
•
Last stop, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park! Bar Harbor is a quintessential New England seaside town, and is so much fun to explore. We were going to go whale watching but a storm drove us indoors to the Bar Harbor winery instead 😬 their blueberry wine rocked my world.
•
Once the weather cleared, we enjoyed Acadia’s adventurous Beehive hike and amazing views at the top!
•
Here’s the itinerary:
•
Boston, MA ➡️ Portland, ME + The Holy Donut ➡️ Wiscasset, ➡️ Acadia National Park + Bar Harbor, ME!
•
This is just a quick overview of a 3-4 day trip (which is what the full blog post is for—I’ll be posting on my story when it’s up later this week!) but I’d love to know what people who have done this trip think!
•
For example, what was your favorite stop along the way? ALSO, which flavor of potato donut did you get? 🤗
All right, y’all, talk to me about the Northern Ro All right, y’all, talk to me about the Northern Rockies in late May vs early September 🏔
•
To keep myself (moderately) sane, I’m planning a camping road trip. MAYBE. Probably.
•
I am QUITE worried that going to the Tetons/Yellowstone/Glacier in late May, assuming it’s safe to do so, will be miserably cold. I don’t completely despise hiking when it’s chilly—I’ve camped in Yellowstone in mid June before and it was doable (chilly and rainy, yes, but fine), but that’s the earliest I’ve been to the Northern Rockies.
•
ALSO, is the fact that Going to the Sun road won’t be open yet enough reason to save Glacier for another time, like September?
•
I realize 1) this is shameless crowdsourcing and 2) I could Google it (don’t worry, I have) but what’s the point of having a community of awesome wise outdoorsy people on Instagram if you can’t get their take on a hypothetical road trip? 🤷🏼‍♀️
When life gives you lemons... • I had a lot of exc When life gives you lemons...
•
I had a lot of exciting plans for 2020, as a lot of us did. But. I’m not gonna dwell on those right now.
•
Instead, I’m feeling grateful for all the extra exploring I got to do in my own backyard 🙌 I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to know a new home as quickly as the one we moved to this year, which is great, because it’s ended up being my favorite home yet!
•
Some days keeping the ~ positive mindset ~ is harder than others, but today I’m trying really hard to make lemonade!
•
What about y’all? Looking back on this summer, care to share any unexpected positivity? (If not, I GET IT, this is also a safe space to vent away if you’re more in the lemon mood 🍋)
SO, for literally the first time in our 5+ year re SO, for literally the first time in our 5+ year relationship, my boyfriend is the one on the road! For a long time! And I am the homebody!
•
(He’s in Northern California, hence the photo from my last time in Big Sur... yes, I am dying of jealousy. Yes, it is one of my favorite places in the country 😍 and yes, I’m super excited for him)
•
But as far as being home alone goes, let me tell you, NOT A FAN. Probably because he’s an introvert and I’m an extrovert (lol I spelled it “extravert” at first and frankly, accurate), but he’s just peachy when I leave him home alone to travel. I think he actively enjoys it, tbh.
•
I liked it for about 48 hours... maybe? But since then, not so much. It’s been almost 2 weeks and I’m going a little nutty. I leave podcasts and TV shows on around the house just to hear other human voices! Have definitely talked to the dogs. A lot.
•
Do you like to be the one with the house to yourself... or the one on the road? 🏡 🚗 🌍
Book recommendations... GO! • It has been a hard w Book recommendations... GO!
•
It has been a hard week (/year) and frankly I need a healthy form of escapism, especially because it looks like the rest of the year won’t provide much!
•
Books that inspire travel of course get bonus points, but honestly I’m up for anything. A few of my current and all-time faves are Wild (Cheryl Strayed), Educated (Tara Westover), and East of Eden (John Steinbeck). I also just finished Where the Crawdads Sing (Delia Owens) and 👏LOVED👏 it.
•
Anyway, let’s do this, I AM BEGGING YOU 😂😅
